Members of the Armed Defense Forces of Mozambique (FADM) stationed in the administrative post of Mucojo, district of Macomia, in Cabo Delgado, are accused of killing three (3) civilians between Tuesday and Thursday last week. Sources told “Carta” that the first victim, a native of the Nacutuco village, was intercepted on Tuesday by the military, on his way to Mucojo-sede, where he was going to receive a bag of dried cassava, but did not escape the death perpetrated by the FADM. “When the family members realized, some members of the local authority explained to the military that the captured person was not an enemy. He was going to take dried cassava for consumption, but it was too late, the military had already executed the person”, said Adala Faque, describing other deaths of civilians in the villages of Rueia and Nambija 2.   The second victim was a fisherman who, while passing near the Barracks on his way to the beach, was captured and then killed by the military positioned in Mucojo-sede. The FADM Barracks is next to the path used by residents of Rueia village to access the beach. The third victim, also a fisherman from the Nambija 2 village, was killed by the military, accused of being a member of the terrorist group operating in the area. “People went looking for the person and unfortunately he had already been fatally shot”, said Saide Pira. The deterioration of relations between the population and members of the FADM stationed in Mucojo-sede comes at a time when terrorists are trying to gain the trust of residents, especially when establishing commercial exchanges. Some residents of Macomia-sede confirmed this Sunday (14) to “Carta” that, on Saturday, a group of terrorists climbed, once again, the headquarters of the Pangane town, in Mucojo, but with no record of acts of violence against civilians.
