The rains that have been falling in the provinces of Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane since the early hours of last Tuesday will continue in a moderate to strong way with thunderstorms, until the next 12th February (Sunday). According to a communiqué from the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM), the country is under the effect of low pressures that influence enough for it to continue to rain in the coming days. The same document states that the persistence of high levels of relative humidity in the air associated with hot weather will continue to contribute to atmospheric instability throughout the country. However, the occurrence of moderate, locally heavy rains could reach the Center and North regions of the country, with emphasis on the provinces of Sofala, Manica, Tete, Zambézia and Niassa. INAM also warns of the formation of a tropical system in the Indian Ocean basin, called “DINGANI”, which is located on the east coast of Madagascar, with the potential to evolve into a “Tropical Cyclone”, however without any imminent danger to the channel of Mozambique, as well as for the mainland of the country. Therefore, INAM appeals to the population to continue to follow meteorological information and warnings disseminated by the competent authorities. (Marta Afonso) Source: Carta de Moçambique
