Former Inspector and former Director of the National Inspectorate of Economic Activities (INAE), Verónio Gaspar Duvane, goes to trial, accused of the crimes of concussion and abuse of office and occupation. With him are also eight agents of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM). All will be tried at the Judicial Court of the Municipal District of KaMpfumo, in the city of Maputo. The information was made public yesterday afternoon, by the Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC), in a press release. In the document, the GCCC underlines that Duvane is going to trial after being arrested in flagrante delicto last May, receiving around 250,000 Meticais from an economic agent. After the episode, which “paralyzed” INAE, the GCCC instructed process nº 30/11/P/GCCC/2022, on suspicion of the involvement of that senior inspector in illegal collections. In the course of the investigations, eight PRM members were also arrested, on suspicion of their involvement in acts of improper collection and illegal detention of the same economic agent. It should be noted that of the nine defendants, one is free after paying a bond. This is Veronio Duvane. The rest are being held in preventive detention. (Marta Afonso) Source: Carta de Moçambique
